Looks like the invite is working now, so thanks for setting it to not expire. I’m in Wisconsin and mostly lurk, but I’d be glad to pop in and see what channels are active before committing to much. Is there a good place to start for someone new, or do people mainly just jump into the general chat? Also, roughly how busy is it on weeknights?

The point about the ham bone carrying enough salt on its own is easy to overlook, especially if you’re used to seasoning everything as you go. I hadn’t considered that a little diced ham could work as a flavor base rather than the main event, which seems like a sensible middle ground for anyone hesitant about it. It’s also interesting that the Sazon Culantro y Achiote shows up in a Madison Hispanic foods aisle; it suggests availability varies more by store than by region, so checking locally before ordering makes sense.

No longer losing after 4 years! What has happened: I did a career switch! I’m officially in tech and have been for 4 years. AI will probably take my job, but for now I’m enjoying it! I got married! I became a Dad 8 months ago to a beautiful baby girl! So, I was itching for a project and knew I didn’t really have a bunch of time to work on anything. Maybe a little bit here and there during naps or on my days off. I also figured it was time to learn a modern game engine and I settled on Godot. My idea was to keep it simple. Rather than try and make an RPG I’m starting with a horizontal shooter/bullet hell game. [image: 1753240519384-skyburrower.png] I have two rabbits, and I decided this game should star them so I’ve dubbed this “Skyburrower”. I don’t really have much of a story, yet, just that for some reason this rabbit has to shoot and dodge their way through a bunch of dangerous levels. I’m borrowing a lot of ideas from a bullet hell game I played on Newgrounds a million years ago. Basic game loop is, shoot through level, earn coins, levels get more difficult, use coins for upgrades to defeat harder levels, big bad boss on the 5th level. Repeat until win. Probably 4 times. I have the parallax backgrounds, enemy spawning, coin spawning, hero control, auto-shooting, enemy death, hero death and level end. I am currently working on UI for when the player dies with the choice of retry or go to world map/upgrade screen. I still need to do a player win state after the level has ended and the player is still alive. I have the beginnings of a world map/level select/upgrade UI but it needs a lot more work. I only have parallax art for 3 levels thus far, and not nearly enough enemies or bullets yet, but I am working on them! That’s about it for now.
